Mazerick - Your Love For Humanity Will Be At Its Zenith
Mazerick Betko is a composer and interdisciplinary artist currently living and working in Birmingham, Alabama. Your Love For Humanity Will Be At Its Zenith is a nine song album about overcoming the personal demands and injunctions that prevent us from showing up authentically for connection in community. It documents change, depicts grief as a transformative event and distinguishes love from limerence. The title refers to the entering of an age in which the speaker's love for humanity will be at its zenith. It portrays the long moment between behavioral death and birth in which grief and longing alchemize agency from surrender. The nine song album reframes classic archetypes like Icarus, Narcissus and Midas as queer allegory in the creation of a contemporary trans mythology. The 44 page companion text explores each song's concepts, techniques and context in relative depth. The voice recordings span a period of physical transition in which the same voice dropped from a soprano to a tenor. The overall work is heavily influenced by the contributions of Drs. Claude Steiner and Eric Burne to the field of psychology through Transactional Analysis, Script Theory and publishings about group therapy work in the 1970s.
An earlier, eight song version of the album, recorded and produced by Mazerick Betko, was published in July 2025. In November of the same year, a partially reproduced version of the album was shared in a new stereo sound mix for a listening event at Sweet Wreath. The April 2026 edition of the album found on Sweet Wreath is remixed for stereo sound by Jasper and includes the addition of the 9th track Mnohyalita.
