walker yancey - i’m a teenage rice field

walker yancey is a recording artist from Birmingham, AL.
“i’m a teenage rice field” is the first official solo release under the name walker yancey. It was recorded in a studio apartment on the same type of 4 track they started on nearly 20 years ago. Having spent the last decade making elliptical music through the projects Lil White Bitch, Flusnoix, Vernal Scuzz, and Zenosyne, “i’m a teenage rice field” finds walker returning to the same instruments and methods they started with as a preteen.

Drifting through multiple genres, and conjuring different impressions, it manages to elude singular definition at all costs, and trust that the listener’s interpretation is as valid as it’s own. Meaning be damned, the release reads like a mixtape from the moon to the night, calling on the listener to come out into the fog, into the mystery, never knowing what might lay just up ahead…

“...has a great bedroom/experimentalist vibe, with individual pieces ranging from lonesome guitar/vocal downer strums worthy of the Corwood Records stable, to primitively buzzing electropop confections that display a pre-digital sonic edge. Altogether a fine and remarkable bit of work, and I have to remember to check out more of Yancey’s music when I’m off the clock.”
-Byron Coley, The Wire, 2026

Tracks 1 and 3 feature collaborations with close friend Jasper Lee on cello, and walker’s mother Jess Marie Walker on vocals.

”i’m a teenage rice field“ will be available on a limited run of white label vinyl.
All 100 copies will be marked with a drop of blood, 30 of which will have a four leaf clover inside.
